Description
Chicopee Woods is a very pleasant ride that begins with the
Tortoise Trail. Start down
Tortoise Trail in the direction indicated for that day of the week. Enjoy a mellow warm-up spin until you reach the intersection with
White Tail Trail.
Turn down
White Tail Trail, enjoy a quick descent and turn left when you hit the service road. Look for
Red Tail Trail to climb back into the woods to the right.
Red Tail Trail contours through the woods for a couple of miles before terminating on the same service road. Turn left onto the service road and look for
White Tail Trail to branch off to the right shortly thereafter.
Follow
White Tail Trail through numerous sweeping turns and look for a junction with
Copperhead Gap. If you want to shorten the ride, just bypass
Copperhead Gap and continue to
Flying Squirrel. For a complete tour, turn onto
Copperhead Gap here and follow its zigging and zagging nature until you reach
Flying Squirrel.
Turn right and follow
Flying Squirrel counter clockwise through a series of up's and down's until you find yourself at "Confusion Corner" once again. This time, turn right to continue on
White Tail Trail.
This portion of
White Tail Trail is a fun, slightly more technical descent down to a creek bed.
White Tail Trail then climbs up to "Champagne Hill" before then contouring its way southward next to the interstate. After crossing multiple elevated bridges, cross the creek and begin pedaling up the gravel road.
Depending on the set direction, re-enter
Tortoise Trail to complete the portion of the trail that you have yet to ride. Upon exiting the trail at the main trailhead, and assuming you're up for more, turn right to follow the road towards
Coyote Connector and
Coyote Trail. Ride the quick and fun
Coyote Trail in either direction and return to your car by retracing your steps.
