Description
Upper
Plunge and Lower
Plunge are two steeper trails connected by a few seconds of climbing on
Red Mountain Rd. The Upper
Plunge was rerouted in 2018 to include grassy meadows in aspen forest, some rocky ledges and some big fast turns. The upper alignment retains a rocky section that drops down a tunnel of dark timber forest. At the top of Lower
Plunge, you'll also find an intersection with the
Hummingbird Trail. Neither Upper or Lower is recommended for uphill bike travel.
Access Upper
Plunge from 4 Corners Rd. /
Red Mt. Rd., and then continue on
Secret Trail before turning left for the fast drop down Upper
Plunge. Lower
Plunge is often ridden as a fast and rocky descent when paired with a climb up
Hummingbird Trail to create a shorter loop down to
Hunter Valley North.
In 2021 the very lowest portion of Lower
Plunge was rerouted out of a rutted meadow to provide a longer wander further down valley along aspen groves and through rock gardens. The eastern bottom spur was also rerouted and lengthened to become the
East Lower Lower Plunge, to connect directly to the uppermost bridge across the Hunter Creek.
