Overview
If you're looking for a quick ride in the town of Groveland CA, then this is it. You can park right at the park in town and get on your bike and hop on the old Hetch Hetchy rail road grade for a nice mellow ride through Historic Groveland, CA.
It's really only intermediate for the steep climbs - it's not technically challenging.
Description
Start at Mary Laveroni Park in Downtown Groveland, CA. Park in the parking lot and walk down past the skate park to the wooden bridge.
From there you'll find a dirt road that you can take right or left. Go right to climb up a steep hill and ride back down it and then you'll eventually run into Feretti Rd. where you'll need to turn around and go back the way you came. Then, from the park, you can go left to climb up a dirt road that will eventually run into Deer Flat Road and give you an open view of the Toulumne Canyon.
Some short loops exist to make things more interesting. Cross Deer Flat road and continue on the dirt road to get some more mileage out of this trail.
You'll eventually run into a no trespassing sign where you'll need to turn around.
Some parts of this trail are covered with broken glass and trash. We are working on trying to clean this up to make this trail more enjoyable.
History & Background
This trail goes along the old Hetch Hethy railroad grade that would bring workers and supplies to the Hetch Hetchy dam when it was being built. It is now overgrown and used as a hiking and biking trail.
