The Buffehr Creek trail is a great descent through thick aspens (and great views), but it's quite a long ride up Red Sandstone Rd for the too-short payoff. Make it better (and longer) by adding Lost Lake Trail.

Buffehr Creek trail dead ends into the North Trail on your way down, which is a nice ride in both directions. Going left (east) will go to your car faster, but going right (west) is quite nice and you can easily return to your car via the paved bike path.

Cruise up Red Sandstone Rd for 2,200 vertical feet over a couple miles until the road forks. The right fork (Lost Lake Road) would take you to a better ride called Son of Middle Creek. You can also follow that road to Lost Lake Trail, and regain this ride later. This is a good option to add more miles and singletrack to this ride.

But if you stay on this ride as mapped, stay left on Red Sandstone Rd, drop a couple hundred vertical and cross Red Sandstone Creek. The road gently climbs some more over the next few miles. The scenery is good thought the pine bark beetles have done extensive forest damage in this area.

Eventually you reach forest service road 734. It's the first and only option to turn left since you crossed the creek. It is marked as "Red and White Rd" or "Bufferhr Creek Rd". Follow this road through active logging (not so nice) until you get to a large clearing with great views. After a great view of an old cabin on a meadow, you'll turn left. Keep a sharp eye on the left side of the road and find the Buffehr Creek Connector that climbs uphill. Follow it until you reach a road and turn left on it.

About two miles down the road the singletrack begins. It's obvious and the only trail you'll have seen. The trail plummets down the aspen-covered slope directly across from Vail. Fun riding on quite steep trail.

It ends too quickly at an intersection with the North Trail. Turn left (east) for another mile of singletrack and you'll be at the parking area.
