Description

Lots of fast and curvy singletrack with the Sandia Crest as a back drop. The trail can be ridden out and back or accessed from any number of other trailheads or roads in the foothills area.

From the parking at the top of Manitoba/Montgomery, the trail starts off by skirting around the newer High Desert development and hits a few rocky patches but nothing too aggressive. From there the trail starts to climb for a ways until it turns left. Once you've made the turn you have really smooth sailing with short climbs and descents into and out of arroyos.

One tough intersection will tempt you to go straight (trail 366), but instead go left. There is a wooden fence on the right at this intersection. In a little ways you will cross Sims Park Rd, and access to the Elena Gallegos Trailhead. More smooth singletrack waits on the other side.

Soon, the trail will start to get rocky in places with more trees in the arroyos. The character of the ride changes quickly between smooth and fast to rough and rocky, back and forth several times. The trail eventually smooths out once you pass trail 230 and continues all the way out to the Sandia Peak Tram and a water tank, finishing with a grueling climb that is not included at this point in the topo, though it would be hard to get lost.
