Description

This trail connects FSR 477 to the gap of its namesake where Black Mountain, Avery Creek, and Buckwheat Knob also converge.

The trail is short in length, but a stout climb from 477. Just up from the road there are several large diversion swales (fun the other way). After crossing the first ridge, the trail gets more technical as it follows a north-facing slope with and a drainage that does more than just seep when the water table is high.

The trail bed is quite rocky here for the last part of the climb. Once you top it out you'll be at the gap in a grassy area where you can snap a picture of the signposts, high-five your buddies, and reflect on how cool Pisgah is.
