Description

The Simms Mt Rail Trail is a portion of the long-distance, multiuse Pinhoti Trail which covers 11 miles located between Rome and Summerville. The trailbed is a generally easy, flat surface as this was converted from an old railbed in the 1990s.
This is a multiuse trail also open to hikers and equestrians.

There is a small trailhead at the southeastern end on Huffaker Rd, with room for a couple of vehicles. If starting at this end, the trail begins by going through a narrow pass between Lavender and Turnip Mts. including a scenic bridge crossing over Cabin Creek. The trail then crosses over lightly-travelled Big Texas Valley Rd and eventually Friday Rd, all over old railbed with very slight grade to it. Eventually about mile 4 it crosses Ga Hwy 100, which is a busier route, so exercise caution. There is room here for several vehicles as well. After crossing the road, the trail generally parallels Ga 100 for the remainder of the way with occasional other small road crossings, until it hits Starling Mill Rd about 0.2 miles west of Ga 100.

From this point, one could take Starling Mill Rd east 0.2 mile and Ga 100 north 1 mile to the High Point trailhead to continue the next section of the Georgia Pinhoti on Taylor Ridge South, where serious uphill singletrack begins very quickly.
