Long bike tour on carriage trails in Minnewaska State Park. Outstanding scenery around Lake Awosting and along the Castle Point carriageway.
Description
Minnewaska only allows biking on specified carriageway trails. Trails are closed to bikes in the winter months. All of the trails are doubletrack width and the only challenging aspect of the ride in the climbing. The scenery along the Lake Awosting carriageway and the Castle Point carriageway is outstanding, especially in the fall!
The loop around Lake Minnewaska is also very scenic. The Millbrook Mountain carriageway is an out-and-back ride that terminates at a scenic overlook of the New York state countryside along the Millbrook Ridge hiking trail. The Awosting falls carriageway takes you to the scenic Awosting Falls (both above and below) and connects to the Peter's Kill area and ultimately to the Mohonk Preserve (Day Fee or annual pass required).
Both Lake Minnewaska and Lake Awosting have designated swimming areas with lifeguards in summer allowing for post or mid ride cool off breaks.
