Long loop on Beaver Brook Association land in Hollis, NH. It covers most of the trails that are open to mountain biking including some nice singletrack and a technical section.
Unfortunately many of the more interesting trails on BBA land are off limits to biking.
While the loop can be ridden in either direction, the one technical section on Tulepo trail is easier when the loop is done counter-clockwise.
Start with a climb of
Ashcroft Trail at the Worcester Rd parking lot. This doubletrack will turn into a singletrack before it comes out at a stone wall. Take a right and get onto Ridge Rd, an unpaved public road. Shortly after getting onto Ridge Rd you'll see the Maple Hill Farm entrance on your left. Turn in here and follow the dirt road (
Cow Lane) all the way to the intersection with Brown Lane Trail.
Take a left, cross the stream and keep left at the next intersection. Recent logging activity made this trail much wider than it was before. Climb what's now a dirt road until you see a washed out doubletrack to your right. That's Elkins Rd, one of the few moderately technical climbs on this loop.
At the end of Elkins Rd (when it joins a trail with a stone wall on the other side) take a right and ride this trail all the way to Rt 130. The trail continues across the road to the left of an old shack. There is no trail sign here, which may be confusing.
Follow the sometimes overgrown trail along a field and descend a washed out path into the woods. Next you come up to a wooden bridge over a beaver pond.
The ride continues straight and the path soon narrows as it also becomes more muddy and riddled with roots and occasional rocks. Keep slugging through this part and take a sharp left onto
Tupelo Trail (not onto Rocky
Ridge Trail which you'll pass).
Tupelo Trail is a nice singletrack that gradually climbs for the first half mile and then levels off allowing for fast pedaling. Before the junction with
Wood Duck Pond Trail there will be a technical section with lots of rocks. This is the part that makes this trail interesting.
Once through that section, turn right onto
Wood Duck Pond Trail and enjoy 0.5 miles worth of downhill. There are even a few bumps and rocks that allow you to catch air.
After the bridge at the end of
Wood Duck Pond Trail, the trail gets technical again, but not for long as the trail widens into a packed gravel dirt road.
Follow that road, cross Rt 130 and keep following the trail. About 0.5 miles after crossing Rt 130 the trail turns left. Stay right at the next junction and keep following this dirt road all the way to Irene Drive. One generally wet area still needs to be crossed here.
To get back to the start of
Ashcroft Trail take a right and follow Irene Dr to Worcester Rd. Take a left and you'll get to the start of
Ashcroft Trail.
