Description
This is a trail that gives you multiple options. It has two main trailheads, and a spur that ends on the mail paved path. One trailhead is on the paved path; the other is on top of the mountain at one of the parking lots.
The main trail from the parking lot to the paved path is a wide path that winds through the woods. The top section of the woods crosses over some shale and rocky sections that new riders will want to take slowly. Otherwise, the path is clear, and controlling your speed is the only real obstacle.
If you follow the spur/fork that leads further down the trail, the markers get a little confusing with the other routes and cross trails that are available, but all takes you to the same place. The trail narrows to a singletrack that is a little more technical with roots and curves. It makes for a good ride whether you go up or down.
We normally ride the yellow trail connector through the farmhouse since it's just interesting. However one of the trailheads to the green trail is just a few feet from that yellow trail entrance. Both take you to the same point where you can climb the green trail up the mountain.
When you reach the first fence line, the trail goes both left and right, allowing you to choose to climb to the parking lot, or descend to the singletrack and slightly more technical sections. The climb can be tough since it goes over loose shale/stone, and a section of rock/slate that has it's edges pointing up and exposed.
If you climb to the blue trail, you can always follow the blue trail and skip the rocky section of the green. Or enjoy the ride down through the denser trees and curves in the spur section.
