Description
This trail begins at 7400' trail and descends along a rocky, twisty track. Surface is packed sand and rock, seasoned with loose rocks and stones. The upper end twists and turns through some intermediate obstacles consisting of 6-12 inch drop offs and loose scrabble.
Picking a line can be challenging at times. In places the trail is slightly off-camber with loose surface conditions that can readily misdirect you into the brush bracketing the trail.
Approximately midway down, the trail levels out and enters some old ruins from the Civilian Conservation Corps era. At this point, stay left and follow a narrow track through some scrub oak. Shortly thereafter, the trail will cross Schilling Ave (not to be confused with the
Schilling Trail further to the east). The route can be hard to pick out at this point. Cross the road and bear right up a white, hard-packed gravel area. The trail becomes more obvious shortly.
While certainly not a beginner trail, the second half does have some nice, fast cruising stretches intermixed with some short, nontechnical rock gardens.
This trail eventually twists its way back to Schilling Ave below the
Trail 715. Excellent options at his point are the
Trail 715 or the
Schilling Trail.
