A great classic New England rooty, winding loop with no elevation change.

Description

This loop is in an extremely compact trail area next to Maine Sport on Route One in Rockport. It starts just to the right after you turn in the main driveway off Route One and finishes about 20 feet to the left.

As the GPS track indicates, the course winds back and forth through the area, never repeating itself. Quite often there is police tape out marking the course, in which case it is relatively easy to follow. Without the police tape, it can be nearly impossible to actually stay on the race course if you don't know it, but a quite enjoyable ride can be had looping around on the trails even if they are not ridden in the same order as the race.

The real beauty of this trail is that between the roots, tight turns, well-placed rocks, and short upticks, it provides a great test of both general technical skills and fitness. Riders on the intermediate side of beginner will enjoy trying to get through it with minimal dabs, while expert riders will get plenty of challenge trying to ride it as fast and smoothly as possible. And despite the tight turns and challenges, riders will find plenty of brief moments of "flow."
