Pitch Pole used to be the name of both the climb up the top half of the mountain to the north of the chairlift and the descent on the south side. In 2013, the first section was renamed Spanker, and Pitch Pole now refers to only the section to the south of the lift.
It starts at the lift and heads across to the southernmost alpine ski trail, Lookout, where there are great views of the bay and islands. For bikers most of the ride down is intermediate but there are two steep and fairly technical sections beginning at Lookout Rock. The trail crosses the Tempest Trail several times and eventually ends at Jibe.
