Description

The Caprock Trail is one of the more difficult trails in the Five Points Trail System at Cloudland Canyon State Park. It runs between the Cloudland Connector Trail (CCT) and Mick's Trail, forming a loop with Mick's Trail. If coming from the Ascalon Trailhead along the CCT, it will be on your left. If coming from the Five Points Trailhead along Mick's Trail, it will be on your left at the end of Mick's Trail. It's uphill from the CCT to Mick's Trail.

This trail intersects with an alternate segment. The alternate segment provides a bail point to the Cloudland Connector Trail if the Caprock Trail gets to be too difficult.

Along the way, you'll encounter sections of loose soil and gravel, steep drop-offs on the trail's edge, and a few rock gardens. Even though the trails in the Five Points Trail System were machine-built, the folks at SORBA-Chattanooga and the Lula Lake Land Trust who built the trail system provided for a few technical challenges to keep the more skilled mountain bikers entertained. The elevation change is not as much of a challenge as the rock gardens.

Nevertheless, the Caprock Trail is relatively wide. You can pick up a fair amount of speed on it if you're not careful, only to slide out on the loose gravel and tumble down the hill. It's a two-way trail, so be careful!
