Description

The Mineral Site trailhead is the main parking area for the Moat Mountain Bike Trail System and the Mineral Site Trail provides access to most of the other trails in the area.

From the parking lot, the trail is rough doubletrack to the Mineral Site (0.9 miles). This section is rooty and rocky with a couple short climbs. There is one rather difficult gully/stream crossing. It's pretty hard going straight up the gully (especially when there's water) but some easier lines have formed on the right. The Mineral Site Trail passes signed intersections with the High School Loop and Tent Boulder trails, both on the left (West).

Below the Mineral Site (smoky quartz prospecting area), the trail starts descending and turns to singletrack that switchbacks down the fall line with banked turns, rock gardens and rooty sections. This part rocks and you won't want it to end! Unfortunately it does at Forest Road 379.

This trail rides well in the reverse direction, especially if making a loop with Lower Stony Ridge. It is easier (all gravel roads) to return to the parking area by turning right on Forest Road 379 and then staying right on it back to the gate at Forest Road 380 and right again to the parking area.
