Botanical starts at the "Cuesta Ridge Botanical Area" sign on TV Tower Road. This area protects a unique grove of cypress tress just north of the trailhead.

The trail begins beyond a metal gate, heads down what looks like a 4WD road, but quickly narrows to a singletrack peppered with secure and loose baby heads. Some sections of trail are fairly steep, and one drop/rut should be noted about 1/4 mile past the starting gate. Several sharp, rocky water bars and a set of switchbacks lead the trail to a junction with Morning Glory and an old mining road. A left turn onto Morning Glory will lead to the Eucs are below Shooters.

Note: The above mentioned old mining road and others that lead off of the Botanical and Morning Glory trails traverse California Army National Guard and/or California Men's Colony (prison) land. Trespassing carries a hefty fine, if not worse.
