Overview

This is a combination of trails that are newly built by the Wyoming State Parks, in accordance with IMBA and sustainable trail building techniques. Overland Mountain Bike Club has assisted in trail building in Glendo State Park. This particular selection of trails from a great loop for exploring the area and seeing what has been done. Trail junctions are numbered in accordance with the map provide through the State Park.

The trail system utilizes a wooden pole with a large fence wire barrel of rocks to show junctions, and when finished the entire system will have a map, trail junction number, and trail name attached to the pole. It will also be colored coded.

Need to Know

Enter the park from any direction. For this ride, park at Two Moon Loop campground. It's 4 dollars for entry into the park. There is plenty of parking, and there are several points within the park to find another place that is near a trail opening. Bring plenty of water, and a couple of food items while riding and make sure to carry out your trash. At Two Moon, there is also a pump track.

Description

This loop starts from Two Moon campground. Park next to the restrooms, and ride the Pump Track for a quick warm-up. This loop utilizes Ponderosa Trail, then connects to the outer portions of the Two Moon Loop. On the Two Moon loop, Ponderosa trail skirts the Pump Track and then heads West.

Head East at the campground and then connect to the pump sections on the South side of the Two Moon loop. Connect to the East entrance of Ponderosa Trail and head West towards the pump tracks. The trail will pass several camping areas and eventually come to a junction - Head South.

You'll come out near the Glendo Park road. Continue to head East to the rollers and trail. Ride past the kids playground and you'll enter a junction with Ponderosa Trail. Follow Ponderosa Trail to the intersection with Two Moon Loop on the North side.

Note: several sections of the trails will have short rock ramp features with ride around options.

Two Moon Loop takes you along the edge of the cliffs overlooking Glendo Lake. The Loop continues along the cliffs, and eventually drops down, towards the beginning of the Two Moon Loop and Ponderosa Trail intersection.

From the intersection head onto the Southern section of the Two Moon Loop. You'll parallel the road for a while - enjoy the pumps and jumps on this section! Follow this trail until the junction with Buffalo Run.

Buffalo Run starts at a road crossing. It is freshly cut singletrack that meanders South of the road and gives a great overlook of the North Platte River. It features smooth, flowing singletrack with bermed turns and a few technical features.

After a few whoops, Buffalo Run intersects the 91 Gigawatt Trail. 91 Gigawatt Trail is a switchback descent to the Power Plant below. Enjoy the well-developed turns, rock drops, and flow this descent offers. This trail terminates at an access road for the Glendo Power Plant. Cross this road and take Renegade trail. Stay headed East and take Rocky River.

Rocky River is bench cut singletrack and sits above the road. It features great flow and has enough obstacles and challenges to facilitate a smile - find it, ride it.

From the end of the Rocky River intersects with a road. Head North on the doubletrack to the other side of the Canyon. From here you'll ride along the river and eventually head up the Barrel Roll trail.

Barrel Roll is a steep but rideable climb. After some quick suffering, go left at the trail junction. Here, the climb becomes more challenging and at one point is hike-a-bike. Eventually, you'll come to another junction. Stay left where the trail brings you near the Dam Overlook.

At the next trail junction, you'll find the Cobblestone and Slide Hill trails. Take a right and go up the stairs to take Cobblestone. Cobblestone trail is difficult and features exactly what you'd think: cobbles! A perfect line is needed to clean it. From the end of Cobblestone, enter the Slide Hill trail, go across the road and connect to the Slide Hill loop. Follow Slide Hill loop going west and continue to the Sundance - A short, rocky connector trail. Take either Slide Hill or Sundance as they eventually connect.

Sundance is another technical, rock trail section. Connect to Slide Hill Loop again and follow it along the Cliff keeping the lake to your right.

You then need to cross the road and begin by taking the Barrel Roll down and back to the Wetland Trail and then take then next right past the bathroom parking area and then jump on the Root Canal. You can then take a few different trails such as Reflector South Spur or the road and head back up. To the campground, by crossing the road to Broken Bow trail. Head west uphill to the Two Moon system and get back to the car/truck etc..
