Description
A wooden sign on a tree announces the entrance to this old favourite. Look out for it just below the first banked turn on
Bobcat, just below the
Ranger Summit ridge.
Right from the start the trail descends at a fairly consistent 10% grade for the first 2.2km. As it follows the ridgeline down it alternates between flowing turns and tighter switchbacks. After the final set of tight turns it sweeps around the contour of the hillside for 0.5km before suddenly turning right on to an old cutline for a short speedy section. The final 0.5km is a more mellow 5% grade and after the final pair of turns it drops you out right opposite the start of the
Snagmore trail.
Compared to
Bobcat this makes a much more technical and challenging climb, with short steeper sections and climbing turns that may give your lungs a workout. This trail has more exposed roots and is generally not as smooth as most of the other singletrack in the area.
Hikers like to extend the Fullerton Loop using
Bobcat and Sugar Mama (which parallels the east-side of the Fullerton Loop) - try not to scare them too much! Bikes are not allowed on Fullerton so hikers have that option if they don't want to share the trail... but as bikers we're expected to share!
