Along the NID flume trail there is private property on both sides and plenty of signs depicting that so be respectful as they hold the key to our passage, and we must honor the gatekeepers...
Overview
A really basic 10 mile grind that has enough elevation to get a workout and a nice chunky fast downhill singletrack to get the ticker thumping.
Tons of options from the turn around point here. I like to combine this with more Pioneer trail, Scott's short loop, or Harmony/Dascombe trails.
Need to Know
Be careful crossing highway 20!
Description
From the Uren street parking area head up Nevada street. Where it lets out onto highway 20, cross over and head up the frontage road along hwy. 20 called Manzanita Diggins Dr. As you cross, look down the shoulder of the highway for a trail running alongside, and hit that on the way back. Quickly look for a small street called Coyote Ct. that goes up on the left. This climbs you up to the water district property where you pass around a gate and keep going east from the water tanks and pick up a dirt road.
After a short dirt climb, you are at the flume where the trail starts. Follow along the Flume until it hits hwy. 20, cross over the hwy. carefully and pick up the flume again. At about the 3.4 mile mark the flume trail ends on Willow Valley Rd. go left here and make the short grind up to Pioneer on the pavement. At the halfway point (5.0miles) you are at lower
Pioneer Trail and have tons of options from here.
The other option is to head down Pioneer from here, cross over to Old Miners' and back on the Flume to Coyote Ct. There is a small overgrown side trail that descends from the backside of the water tanks at the end of the flume trail. It's a bit confusing but its a good dirt alternate to going down the road. Pick up that fun singletrack along the highway I mentioned earlier. a great way to get back to where you parked.
