Description
This is one of a few starting points for the Coulton Creek / Hinman Creek are trails. Diamond Park Trail starts from the North Fork trailhead. Get there by heading north out of Steamboat and taking a right on Seedhouse road, towards Clark. Drive 25 miles or so, pass the awesome general store in Clark, and the road will turn to dirt. It's a few more miles after the dirt, and it will be fairly obvious on your left, after the Hinman Creek Trailhead.
The trail itself starts through a meadow and goes uphill almost immediately. The climbing is never too tough on on this trail, but it's consistent in a few spots. After the first climb, the trail opens up to a wide open valley with spectacular scenery. There's a rock face in front of you, and you're surrounded by burned trees from a large 2003 fire that you'll see evidence of on all of the trails in this area. There's even a
Lupine forest along the first half of the trail that will be spectacular in early summer.
There are several stream crossings, but none are ever deep. The trail is a little loose in places, but generally flows well. The trail is nothing incredible to ride, but it gets 4 stars for scenery.
