Description
This is an easy, scenic trail with a few technical spots that can be walked. The trail runs between Georgetown to Dumont. There is exposure the entire route so watch for trees and rocks that may move you toward the edge. After a rain the edges of the trail are softer and more prone to give way. The route provides a view of Alvarado Cemetery graveyard and the remains of the Silver Creek Town site.
biking
I-70 Georgetown Exit #228, Park in Historic Downtown Georgetown, on your bike go south on 6th Street to its end at the Energy Museum, make a left then a right onto Biddle Street, at Main Street make a left heading east, take Main to Saxon Mountain Road, follow this to the last house and enter what appears to be a driveway, this is the start of the trailhead.
The final 1.5 miles is a difficult but broad jeep trail. Skill in riding over moving rocks and boulders is helpful here.
Upon exiting the jeep trail you can return to Georgetown by riding Alvarado Road which has a wide bike path.
You can make the ride an out and back or you can loop on the road.
There are several easy sections, but even on the easy sections you have to be vigilant. Due to the fall hazard, the harder sections are walked by most people. Some sections are screaming easy as long as you dont go off the side. Most are difficult.
