Description
Start at the intersection of Sugarloaf Mountain Road and Comus Road in the big parking area. Pedal up the paved one-way road for about 5 minutes. You'll see a dirt road on your right blocked by a strung cable, this is the beginning of the
Yellow Trail.
The first section of the
Yellow Trail has recently been "graded" by a bulldozer but it seems to have left more fist to melon sized rocks in the trail then before it was graded. After about 2 miles the trail gets considerably steeper (my GPS read 13+% grade). After the climb, the road peters out and you're on some rugged singletrack. Lots of rock gardens and low hanging trees to play limbo with.
At the intersection with the Purple and Blue trails, the
Yellow Trail turns back to a dirt road for a fun descent down to Mt. Ephram Road. When you get to the road (it is only paved in this section due to the steep rise out of the drainage and the stream it crosses) go left - uphill. The
Yellow Trail entrance will be on your right. After another mile or so it crosses Mt. Ephram Road again.
This next section back to your car is the most rugged of the entire trail. Rock gardens galore with a few creek crossings, g-outs (if you can keep your speed up), roots and logs to keep your heart rate up. Once you get to the paved one way park road head slightly uphill before jogging over onto the paved path that will take you back to your car (or another lap if you're a glutton for punishment).
