Description
This trail intersects the
Declue Trail. The trail quickly climbs and crosses Scenic Loop Road,
Greensfelder County Park's inner paved road. The trail is terrific in both directions but features a fast descent if ridden counter-clockwise.
After crossing Scenic Loop road, gently bear left (do not head up the steep climb) and follow the singletrack as it gently climbs a rocky hillside. Fossil Ridge features plenty of limestone and chert to keep you on your toes. Weave between trees and small rock outcroppings and be sure not to miss the alternate line. This line is a tight squeeze between two rocks that sets you up for a short and fun steep rock face before rejoining the main trail.
At the far end of the trail you'll need to tighten up your tech skills as you thread between some tricky rocks before sweeping quickly left on a climbing turn. You can now see where you've ridden as you weave around a rocky cedar-covered plateau before climbing some more. The trail gets easier as you've gotten past all the hard technical bits. The trail tops out near the paved Scenic Loop road and intersects an old connector trail that parallels the road.
Many riders continue left and follow the quickly descending fall-line singletrack that is older and rough to make a loop out of Fossil Ridge. As an alternative, turn right where Fossil Ridge meets the old connector trail and climb a short distance and then bear right again to start the
Beulah trail loop.
Greensfelder is a multi-use park and is heavily used by equestrians so please show proper trail etiquette by announcing yourself and dismounting your bike on the uphill side. Follow the equestrian's guidance. Please do not ride around features, alter the trail to suit your skill level or ride in muddy conditions.
