Description
This is a rare dirt ride in the national park. The trail is an old dirt road that appears to be ground up pavement and stone. The trail is very flat, but takes you through a great valley where bison tend to hangout all year.
Although it is outside of the main geyser basin area, there are still hotsprings and thermal pools along the trail. One of which is Ojo Caliente Spring, only 0.8 of a mile into the trail. The gravel trail continues to head South, taking you behind the Midway Geyser Basin and ending at the Fairy Falls trailhead.
The trail also goes by Goose lake and the back side of Grand Prismatic Springs. There are numerous side trips possible on foot and this is a very leisurely ride that is great to take the family on. During the summer months the main park road can get busy, but there is ample shoulder along the road to make the ride very enjoyable.
The route is well marked and easy to follow. This is a great way for bikers to get out of the car and explore!
