Description

Trail D is one of many trails in the Canfield Mountain Trail System. This a great little singletrack that dives off the north side of West Canfield Butte and connects to the Island. It brings you down through the Viewpoint that sits between West Canfield Butte and East Canfield Butte. Some of these trails are short, but they offer some great hard pack trails that connect to other trails which allow you to build a great ride out of them all. Specifically, this trail stays in pretty good condition from mid-spring to early winter.

Trail D starts out with some heavily rutted sections but they can be navigated with some technical experience. Once the trail starts its journey along the north face of the West Butte, it opens up and becomes a smooth, flowing trail that offers up some good speed. The Trail merges with old forest road 2342 and you continue to the Viewpoint. Once at the Viewpoint, look for the trail to continue off the eastern edge. The trail gets steep, loose and rutted here, so use caution. You'll be led down to the Island where the trail ends and you can pick another trail and head off in most any direction you want. Have fun Exploring!
