Larrabee State Park requires the use of a Discover Pass for every vehicle that enters the park.
This trail is open to pedestrians and sight lines can be poor. Be on the lookout!
Description
To access Double Diamond enter the Park via
Cleator Road and drive or bike to the summit. Cyrus Gates Overlook accommodates 15-20 cars if they are parked orderly (note that all vehicles entering the park require a Discover Pass). The overlook offers great views if the weather is clear.
For the full length of Double Diamond, push your bike up the short steep trail opposite the lookout. Or you can take the
Cyrus Gates Connector trail at the SW corner which links back up shortly.
Double Diamond serves up loamy turns peppered with roots, rock slabs, and the occasional abrupt corner. Larrabee State Park is beautiful, and there's plenty to look at as you weave and dash through old growth trees. A
201 revision removed a few of the more technical sections and replaced them with steep "g-outs."
If you're looking to connect onto
Double Down keep an eye out for an understated trail splitting to the left near the end. Otherwise keep riding to a steep, rooty roll down onto
Fragrance Lake Road. Pedal up the hill to the right to connect to
Fragrance Lake Loop Trail and then to
Two Dollar or retrace your steps back to
Double Down.
