Description
This newer trail connects with
Moonshine Trail and
Cave Trail via the Loop Trail (currently under construction). Although it isn't marked with the name, a green/white circle on a wooden trail marker signals the beginning and the end of this trail. The upper entrance to this trail is across Lodge Dr from the
Moonshine Trail and is relatively steep. It travels through a cleared area before going back into the woods. This is actually part of the Loop Trail, but for mapping purposes, it will take you to the
Cave Trail. After a short descent through the woods, a sign for the
Cave Trail will be visible on the left; turn here. You'll descend a little more to another intersection. Here, you have the option of remaining on the highly technical
Cave Trail or turning left to take the easier alternate. The alternate route is more mountain bike-friendly.
The alternate route gently descends to the road to the campground. There are a few whoop-de-dos and switchbacks along the way, but the trail is relatively wide, machine-cut, singletrack with some gravel for erosion control. At the bottom, you can cross the campground road to continue on the rest of the
Cave Trail.
