Overview

Selma will keep you on the edge of your seat for the whole ride. It features fast-flowing downhills, a couple of steep uphills, and a few riverbed crossings.

Description

The new out and back connector trail to the new trailhead at the intersection of Vinson Hwy and Laying Farm Road adds about 1.5 miles to the total loop, giving you 6.5 miles, about 1000' of climbing and one of the best workouts Middle Georgia can offer. There is a rocky switchback towards the end of the trail and you may have to walk, as well as a couple of epic tree root sections. Spring through fall brings lots of wild flowering plants including Trout Lilies, native Azalea's, Trillium, Verbena, Purple Aster, Gentian and Indian Pink, all providing lots of color (if you can see it through your blurred vision from the heart pumping trail ride). These trails bring as many hikers as riders, so come out and enjoy them which ever way you are most comfortable with. Please note, the stats shown on MTB Project for this trail are not accurate. With the out and back from/to the new trailhead, you are looking at approximately 7 miles with 1,080' of climb. There are a number of climbs that are over 18% grades too.

North Georgia mountains? Nope! This is right in the heart of Selma Erwin Nature Preserve.

This rock garden is the last (or first) true technical featuer on a lap at Selma. It is much easier on a CW lap as you hit it on a downhill run. Uphill can be tough if you don't know the lines.

The camera doesn't do justice to how knarly these rocky switchbacks are. But the good news is that you are almost done, unless you are riding CW, then you're just getting started. ;)

The kiosk at Selma's new trial head has a map and information on the history of the preserve and the unique flora that makes it home.

got to the trailhead and it was totally grown over. lots of trash, smells of pee, looks abandoned.

Some fallen trees, but rideable if you have the skill. Wet/slick made it a tough challenge. If Jake/Bull is difficult, then this is very difficult. 6mi

update, my comments refer to the lake entrance. After reviewing the map, there is a second entrance, looks like an abandoned school.

Not black diamond. Overgrown. V humid and hot. Seemed like a good trail though 4mi — 1h 00m

Def not for beginners, was a bit out of my league. Pushed me to my limits and beyond, for that i'm thankful I rode. Kudos to the builder/maintainer! 5.2mi — 1h 53m

A few fallen trees and overgrown areas but still a great trail. Several steep, technical climbs left me hiking but it was worth it for the downhills 6mi — 1h 09m
