Description
This trails is a partial segment of the larger Buzzards Rock Loop, when looking at DNR's map, and is blazed yellow. The portion of the trail to the east which is not documented here is not typically used by mountain bikers as this trail ends directly at the
Swinging Bridge on that side on a section of trail which is really not navigable by bike.
This trail starts at the top off of the
Sawmill Branch Trail and ends at the paved
Grist Mill Trail. From Sawmill all the way to Grist Mill, is all downhill! The top provides a slight descent, but as you get further down the trail you fall faster to the valley floor. Be careful about 1/2 way down, as you'll need to make a left to stay on the trail.
There is a "lookout" to the right which is very pretty, but if you come flying down the trail and go that way, you could fall a pretty far distance off of a cliff, as you'll have trouble stopping. Just be warned.
Once you pass this overlook, the trail will become steeper, and more intermediate with some log drops. This trail ends with a very steep rock and water bar covered decline to the
Grist Mill Trail. This last part is only about 100 feet long, but anyone that is not at least a strong intermediate may want to walk this section, as one mistake will leave you going over the handle bars. It is that steep.
