Description
The Potato Run Trail connects from the Campground to the
Group Camp Trail, and provides access to the Nature Center and the
Breeden Ridge Trail.
From the campground, the trail begins near the ice machine, sharing access with the Tulip Valley hiking trail. At Battleship Rock, the trail splits off to the right and flows along the ridge behind the campground, before descending into the valley. Use caution when approaching the horse crossing and yield to horseback riders.
After the horse crossing, the trail crosses dry creek beds and runs through the spicebush and hardwood, and over an old rock fence line, before entering a series of machine-built twists and turns. A spur trail on the left will lead off toward the nature center.
The trail continues to wind down toward the intersection with the
Breeden Ridge Trail, and then winds along the edge of Potato Run before crossing the creek bed. A short climb from the creek leads toward an access road to a lift station and the
Group Camp Trail. Again, caution should be used, as the trail crosses another horse trail before reaching the road.
