Description

The Chase Trail consists of three distinct sections and is accessed by the Plum Creek trail. The first is singletrack, followed by a steep climb up doubletrack and finished with a singletrack flurry to the overlook.

You must access the first section from Plum Creek. The trail begins on the right side as you climb Plum Creek and is marked by signs with a green trail indicator. This starts out steep but loses steam quickly as the trail gradually rolls and weaves through some dense forest. There are a few small rocks to navigate in the beginning, but everything is easily rideable. As the forest begins to thin you'll encounter a sharp, steep, right-hand switchback that is immediately followed by another left-hander. Once this section is clear you get a quick breather as the grade levels out in a small clearing before you attack the ridge line. The final few hundred meters are much steeper, with grades reaching 15-20% in a few short sections. Push through this until you pop out on the Plum Creek trail and you've finished the first section.

Hang a right onto the doubletrack section that was Plum Creek and continue to climb. There isn't much to the second section except that it maintains a pretty good grade and is about a half mile of climbing. If you're riding with buddies now is the time to come together and talk about how much more fun this will be on the way down. The trail will bend to the left about half way up and offer a decent view back down into the Chase forest. Another quarter mile and the doubletrack consolidates into singletrack for the final section.

Once you get back to singletrack the final section is steep with a few spots of loose dirt/rock that makes the climbing a bit more challenging than before. Your vertical pursuit ends when you hit a T-intersection. Here the trail just loops around the overlook so either way is a winner. The Northwest corner has a decent place to sit and rest. Now turn around and go back how you came, the fun part.
