Soon to be rerouted around muddy section. Muddy in the spring.
Description
Access this trail from the neighborhoods on the northeast side of Green Mountain - only street parking available.
The trail starts on packed dirt with a mellow climb becoming steeper as it passes the water tower and begins switchbacking up Green Mountain.
At the top of the first ridge, packed dirt gives way to loose large gravel, becoming more easily doable again as the trail wraps up the side of the nearest peak. After coming around the side of the peak, the trail briefly follows a doubletrack road in the uphill direction until it comes to a fenced area containing geological test equipment.
Find the singletrack to the right of the fence. Soon after the fence there is a brief downhill before the trail climbs up the fall line of the valley. This section is prone to be muddy and is soon to be rerouted higher up on the right side of the valley. A switchback again brings the trail to a loose gravelly ridge and, after a trying rocky climb, the trail meets up with the
Green Mountain Loop Trail.
