An excellent intro to singletrack. My kids and friends all started here.

Family Friendly A great singletrack introduction for the little ones!

Overview

This is an easy, breezy loop featuring just enough challenge on singletrack to make it actual mountain biking.

Need to Know

There are a couple of small rollers coming up out of the creek bottom and getting back to your car along Pioneer Trail Road. New riders may have to hike a short distance.

Description

Start at the split rail parking area on Pioneer Trail Road. Hop on your bike and follow a doubletrack trail west beside the road. When you hit the big power lines, the trail veers left and rolls downhill to the creek. Turn left onto a road and cross Saxon Creek and shortly after, Trout Creek. Look for the trail taking off to the left through a split rail fence.

From here, it is a nice long downhill (ever so gently) along the old railroad bed. You'll ride along Trout Creek as the trail winds past open pine forest.

At the 3.5 mile mark the trail pops out at the end of Columbine Trail (a road), ride a stone's throw down the street and look for the trail dropping off the left side of the road. This is my favorite part, down by a beautiful stream.

Cross a footbridge and follow the path up over a short but steep hill and back along the highway to your car.

Great singletrack and multi track for kids or for a gravel bike ride. A few narrow short bridges but my 9 yo had no problem — 0h 40m
