Description

The Blue Trail forms the backbone of Bay Park West, running the length of the park and connecting to every other trail. It parallels the Orange Trail and Red Trail, running the furthest uphill of the three. It's a mile and a half of beautiful hand-crafted rolling singletrack.

Starting from the parking lot on Homewood Lane, Blue Trail descends eastward into the park. After a stretch of boardwalking, the trail tees at the old trolly bed. The Green Trail splits off to the left, while the Blue Trail continues to the right.

The trail runs for a short distance on the old trolley bed, formerly part of the Rochester and Glen Haven Railroad. This light railway ran trolleys from downtown Rochester to the old resort of Glen Haven on the Irondequoit Bay from 1891 to 1933. If you look carefully you might find an old concrete electric pole from those days.

After crossing the creek, the trail switches back and climbs up the hill to an intersection with Orange and Red. The Blue Trail bears right, staying further up the hill than the other trails. The three trails merge for the rocky creek crossing and fan out again, with the Blue once again on the right, uphill side. After some good fun singletrack, the trail intersects with the Purple Trail and bears left into the big saddle and 4-way intersection.

At the intersection, Orange is to the left, Purple is to the right, and Blue continues diagonally across the saddle. From here, Blue descends to the Fish and Game parking lot, with logs, rollers, and berms along the way. There is a trail intersection about two-thirds of the way through this stretch - both segments join together fairly quickly though the left option flows a little better in this direction.
