Description

From the trailhead, you'll immediately begin a grueling 5-mile ascent. The difficulty of this trail lies in the grade of the climb, not the trail surface which is mostly non-technical. The forest setting is absolutely beautiful as it winds you around massive granite slabs and tight switchbacks. Every clearing in the trees will award you with breathtaking views for miles.

Keep heading past the summit for more spectacular views and amazing trail cut across the beautiful mountainside. Take a picture and retrace your tracks. On the way down, the only thing slowing you down will be your own comfort with speed, that and switchbacks.

This descent is seriously fun, fast, and flowy! Just imagine how jealous all your friends will be because they couldn't ride today.

Right at 2800 feet of elevation gain to get to the top of Chestnut Mountain. The climb up is definitely challenging but a rewarding view at the top. 11.3mi — 2h 07m

A real butt kicker on the way up. Reasonably fun down. Not busy on a Saturday morning. Definitely deserves it's rating though. 12.9mi — 2h 41m

Great trail conditions, hardpack without loose duff. The current greenery makes it hard to see far in sections, so watch your speed for dogs/people.
