Overview
This is a great ride if you're just looking to gain some elevation and enjoy the solitude of Belleayre in the off-season. The downhill options at the end aren't half bad either.
Description
Turn off Route 28 at Galli Curci Road and park at the Cross-Country ski trails and maintenance area.
After exploring the cross-country trails (
A Trail,
HH Trail, and the
J Trail) through dense forest, you can follow the Discovery lodge connector out to the Discovery Lodge and start climbing the
Ashokan Trail to the Overlook Lodge. After passing the Overlook Lodge, keep heading up on
Roaring Brook Road until you reach the
Belleayre Ridge Trail (red blazes) on the ridge. Turn left here and follow this trail past the first lean-to.
There are now three ways to get down the mountain: the
Cathedral Glen Trail (first left), the Giggle Hollow Trail, and the
Pine Hill-Eagle Mountain-West Branch Trail.
To get to the
Pine Hill-Eagle Mountain-West Branch Trail, you pass the
Cathedral Glen Trail, staying on the
Belleayre Ridge Trail until you reach the fork at the summit of Belleayre Mountain. Take a left at the sign for Pine Hill.
After a 1/4 mile, you'll pass another lean-to and arrive at the intersection with Lost Clove Trail. Turn left at the fork to continue towards Pine Hill. Almost immediately, you'll hit another intersection. The Giggle Hollow Trail to the right takes you down to Belleayre Beach, while the
Pine Hill-Eagle Mountain-West Branch Trail will take you down to
Woodchuck Hollow Road.
Following this steep dirt road descent, you can turn left and follow the abandoned
Ulster-Delaware Railroad Curve back to the cross-country trails.
