- Like many of the trails at Moran State Park, this one is open to mountain bikers from September 15 to May 15 and is hiking only the rest of the year.
- A Discover Pass is required at the trailhead, and the park is equipped with an automated pay station.
Description
On a clear day, access this trail by taking the
Little Summit Trail from the observation tower to enjoy the views. On a cloudy or rainy day, start at the Cold Springs parking area.
From the road crossing, the trail travels a little over half a mile to the intersection with the
North Trail. You'll quickly pass a picnic area followed by a pond. Once at the intersection keep left and the descent begins almost immediately. The Cold Springs Trail mostly consists of sections of straightaway that roll into indistinct sharp corners. This is a good trail to practice your turning skills. There are also small rough or technical portions and much of the trail is narrow or exposed.
Near the bottom, you'll see the
West Boundary Trail coming in from the right (and it's possible to divert onto the West Boundary Segment). Soon you'll end up at the Cascade Lake parking area.
There are supposed to be two mine shafts just off the trail, but I wasn't able to spot them while riding.
