Overview

This is great shuttle run that will take you through the vast pines of Bogus Basin, past iconic Stack Rock and finish up on an open, flowing singletrack.

Need to Know

Take a few bucks as you can stop at the main Bogus Basin Lodge for a burger, beer, Gatorade, etc.

Description

This ride is best done as a shuttle where we leave one rig at the trailhead of Polecat Loop Access just off of N. Cartwright Road. This is where the ride will finish. Head east on Cartwright until you hit Bogus Basin Road and take a left up to the ski resort. At the Bogus Basin ski resort lower lodge you'll see parking and a large trail map. I suggest you check out the map and familiarize yourself with the ride.

Start off onto Deer Point Trail for a nice, easy climb. About half way up this trail there is an intersection that is well signed. Turn right onto the Around the Mountain trail. Continue on this fun side-cutting singletrack around the backside of the ski resort where you'll climb the last bit to Pioneer Lodge. There are several ways back down to the main parking lot where you started but Morningstar Trail is one of the more common trails.

At the parking lot head back down Bogus Basin Road and after a few hundred yards you'll see signage calling out for Eastside Trail on the right that drops off the road and into the trees. This is a wide, shared XC ski trail that, after about a mile or so in, you'll need to turn left off of at the Eastside Trail. The sign should be well marked. The Eastside Trail provides lots of technical fast flowing singletrack. There are a few other spurs as you head down the trail and all are well marked and often a fun way to mix it up.

Continue to keep side-cutting the trail and you'll come to Stack Rock Trail. As you navigate through some old growth trees look for the Sweet Sweet Connie trail off to the left, overlooking the city of Boise. This is a great spot to catch a few epic photos and take in the valley below. If you want a little extra adventure you can head up Stack Rock Trail and swing back. It's a great view but a steep climb right at end.

As you drop off from Sweet Sweet Connie, you'll want to set your dropper down as it is steep and loose with some sketchy rock patches. Continue down the trail and you'll see an intersection with Peggy's Trail off to the right. Peggy's Trail is a nice cruiser for the last 5 miles as you work back to your vehicle at Polecat Loop Access.

History & Background

Many of these trails were once ridden off grid but due to great collaborative efforts by land management agencies and Rivers to Ridges organization, agreements to use all these trails legally has been a great accomplishment.

After crossing an open field littered with lava rocks and cow poo, the trail's about to get really fast.

Ran late and had to bail at bottom of sweet Connie, but still a great descent. Little bit of uphill traffic down low, but very quiet up too.
