Overview

A fun combination of an extended climb rewarded by a fast, technical descent down Deadman Canyon!

Description

This loop allows you to experience an extended climb on a dirt road but enjoy a fast and relatively technical descent on singletrack.

Start at the parking area near the base of Deadman Canyon just off of Tyrone Road. Head up the dirt road from this point for approximately four miles. The majority of the road will be a non-technical but a rigorous climb. Once you meet up with the CDT: Burro Peak TH (NM Sec. 6), head south on the singletrack toward the Burro Mountains.

Continue on the CDT until you arrive at the Deadman Canyon trailhead. The trailhead is just under Mud Spring. Enjoy a fast and challenging descent down the canyon, heading east back toward the parking area.

Combined this route with the Redrock to Tyrone out and back to make a great loop. Note - there is no sign for the Deadman Canyon trail, bring GPS! 20.5mi — 3h 30m

Challenging trail conditions. Very dry. Narrow sections blown out by livestock tread in many areas. Watch Christopher's vid to familiarize w/ route. 8.6mi — 3h 15m
