This ride passes near the hiking only Lone Star Trail, which incurs a $400 fine if you bring a bike on it. Make sure to stay on track.
Overview
A fun, new trail just outside of the Huntsville State Park. A short, but fun singletrack ride that includes lots of dips and turns through the natural terrain. This trail can be accessed by the
CCC Trail that circles the Huntsville State Park, or via the feeder road along I-45 where hikers would enter the Lone Star Trail.
Need to Know
This loop starts at the Nature Center parking area in Huntsville State Park. There is a $7 day user entrance fee to enter the park or $70 annual State Parks Pass (2020 prices). Limited free parking is available at the Lone Star Trailhead on IH-45 at the end of FS 286. There is a major project (as of 2020) to widen/rebuild I-45 in this area and this could affect this parking area.
Description
To pick up the trail, ride to it using the
CCC Trail near the Huntsville State Park Nature Center in a clockwise manner to the
South Loop Trail at mile 0.75. You can also park outside the Huntsville State Park on the I-45 Feeder road if you don't want to pay the $5/person fee to hit it from the park side. This trail is a good addition to the
Chinquapin Trail nearby and well worth the $5 for parking and the added mileage! The trail is pleasant, easy riding through the trees. It has a few dips through small creeks that are dry in the summer.
