Overview
This is world class singletrack with great flow, plenty of topography, and dramatic ocean views. Perhaps the best tropical seaside singletrack anywhere. Twenty-two kilometers of bike trail as of April 2016, plus some hiking-only trails.
The full-service bike shop, Pura Vida Ride, has rentals and is located very close to the trailhead. The loop is part of Las Catalinas, a beautiful pedestrian town on the beach that has many options for food, drink, and lodging.

Need to Know
In the dry season, November through April, riding is best here early in the morning or after 3:30 in the afternoon as the midday sun is intense. Early morning is beautiful, as is late afternoon.
In rainy season, timing is more flexible. Mornings are generally clear and afternoons may be cloudy with possible rain. Morning riding is still generally the best plan.
Description
This loop takes in most, but not all, of the Las Catalinas trail system trails. It can be ridden in either direction, but is more commonly ridden clockwise. There is lots of great flowing singletrack, and many dramatic viewpoints.
The main hazard along this ride are steep sideslopes, of which there are many. Though not cliffs, these slops are places where you could go for a long tumble. As some area pros have said, "...the trail is not hard, but it is hard to go fast!"
History & Background
Construction of these trails started in 2009, and they have been developing since. The first portions of Las Catalinas, the town, opened in 2010. Further trail development is ongoing.
