A great technical trail with big slabs and off-camber shenanigans.

Description

Original Sin heads into the trees for a low-key mildly rooty start. The grade steepens a bit as the singletrack heads into some bumps and a fun little rock armored turn before a bumpy run-out to the road crosses over Upper Freight Train.

Turn right on the road before quickly heading back into the trees for a nice rocky straightaway. The grade will continue to steepen until riders find themselves in a small chute with bumps and a v-cut root drop that leads down to a trail merger with Blue Velvet. Check for riders and then dive into another bumpy road run-out.

If you keep your speed up, you'll be able to make it up most of the embankment on the other side, though riders will generally dismount at some point to make it over the flat rocks that head past a great little overlook of the valley and water below. Continuing on, the trail drops into a small side-hill/ridgeline. The roughest part ends up being the deep brake bumps that develop in the loose gravel just before the trail crosses over the Bear Cub Road.

Back in the trees, the singletrack rolls toward a small rock slab with two similar lines. Either way you go, just pay attention to a narrow bridge crossing that leads to the next slab. The crown of the steep plunge ahead may not look like the main line, but it's actually easier than the off-camber alternative line to the right - though it is more intimidating.

The steep plunge ends in a fast and chunky run-out that's a fun mix of slow rolling braking to monster trucking acceleration. In the wet, the slab gets a bit tricker as the smooth rock has a lot to say about the available braking and speed. There's not much time to reflect on your progress because Original Sin shoots right into a tight and rough corner. Keep to the inside for the best result.

Up next is the trail's most formidable feature, a large off-camber rock roll that feeds into a steep exit. There are generally two approaches. Stay high and work your way slowly down through the far side of the corner or cut through the center and make a punchy descent to the dirt berm below. Either way, it's probably worth scouting your preferred line before your roll in for the first time.

As a reward for all the hard braking and off-camber work, the final part of the trail crosses over a gravelly clearing to one of two step-ups that boost riders into a small clump of trees below.

Located in the Garbanzo Zone, Original Sin starts at the top of the Garbanzo Express Lift and ends on the Bear Cub Road across from Goat's Gully.
