Description

From Pipiriki, head on the trail down along the picturesque Whanganui River Road. This route taps into the depth of natural and cultural heritage of the Maori and early European settlers. Stop along the way to interact with the local residents while taking in the serenity and history as you cycle next to the Whanganui River (Te Awa O Whanganui) through small communities including Hiruharama (Jerusalem), Ranana, Matahiwi, Koriniti, Atene, and Parikino.

There are a number of historical points of interest along the route that are marked with signposts. In addition to a number of accommodation options along the road and a café/gallery that is open during the summer at Matahiwi.
