The Cloudland Canyon Connector Trail - Price Branch Section is also open to hikers and equestrians.
Description
From the CCT State Park Trailhead, the Cloudland Canyon Connector Trail - Price Branch Section meanders five miles through rhododendron, hemlocks, and well-shaded forests to the Ascalon Trailhead.
It begins with a fast, flowing, 1.7-mile descent towards GA-189, which continues for another 1.5 miles to the Price Branch Bridge. Along the way, the Cloudland Canyon Connector Trail - Price Branch Section intersects with
Prince Albert three times and
Atlatl four times. There are several small, but wide, bridges before reaching the equally wide Price Branch Bridge.
After crossing the Price Branch Bridge, the Cloudland Canyon Connector Trail - Price Branch Section begins to climb steadily towards the Ascalon Trailhead. Barkeater offers a more exciting singletrack alternative, but the climbing is about the same.
The Cloudland Canyon Connector Trail - Price Branch Section follows an old coal mine road for some of this distance. The coal mine road consists of crumbling asphalt and gravel. Shortly after the second intersection with Barkeater, there is a relatively steep climb prior to the exit to Ascalon Road across from the Ascalon Trailhead.
