Family Friendly The trail to Golden Pond and back is fairly flat, not technically difficult and just right for kids.

Overview

This ride is made up of a 50/50 mix of singletrack and doubletrack trails. The trails are not marked well but for the most part you can just follow the trail.

Need to Know

Trail is very dusty in the hot summer. Best ridden in the winter, spring, and fall (after a rain).

Description

Start this ride by heading towards the sign-in box but don't go to it. Instead, take a left onto the singletrack. Follow this and cross the creek at about one mile. Keep following the singletrack until you cross the cattle guards. You'll go through two of these to a dirt road. Turn right onto the dirt road but look for the singletrack shortly after on the left. Take this and follow it up to a flowing downhill. You'll cross another dirt road and go down a short, steep section.

There is a junction here, turn right and go up Afterthought or stay straight and go to Golden Pond. Afterthought is somewhat technical and pretty fun. Most beginners stay on the trail to Golden Pond and then go back to the trailhead. Take a right to go up Afterthought. At the end of Afterthought is another junction, going left takes you to the dirt road and ultimately Golden Pond.

Take the right and go to Lost Forest. At the cow trough, go straight crossing the dirt road. Follow the singletrack until you come upon a doubletrack and fence. Go left on this doubletrack, following the fence. After a while, you turn left to get back on the singletrack. Follow for a while until you come upon another dirt road, turn right to go up.

Cross over the cattle guard and turn left down towards the cow trough and follow the singletrack. You'll cross a couple dirt roads but stay on the singletrack. There's a very fun and flowing downhill section after the sign that says Lost Forest.

At the end of the singletrack, you come upon a dirt road, go right and follow it to the gate. Open this gate and make sure you close it after you go through. Go immediately right following the fence and watch for the singletrack on your left that takes you to Giant's Grave.

Follow the singletrack until you come to an intersection. You can go down Giant's Grave two different ways, beginner or intermediate. Pick your poison, it all connects back to the main trail. Follow the main trail through this very fun section of jumps and flow.

Afterwards, the trail intersects a dirt road that follows the powerline for a ways. This road can get very dusty so look for side trails on the uphill sections that get you out of the dust. Keep an eye out for the cattle guard on your left that links back to the singletrack. Go over the cattle guard and follow the singletrack all the way to Golden Pond. From here, the main trail gets you back to the trailhead.
