Description
Dead Moose Alley is very uncharacteristic of Kingdom riding but very characteristic of New England riding at large: technical, punchy, and unpredictable. Smooth, tacky dirt leads into rooty, rock, rugged drops and switchbacks that never let you build confidence or speed. This makes the 1.6 miles of trail take longer than other trails of similar length at Kingdom to give the sense that you're going downhill forever. This also makes Dead Moose Alley a different, less forgiving kind of black diamond trail from the ones on the Darling Hill side of Kingdom.
While you're bound to be focused on the trail, don't forget to look up. You're high on the side of Burke Mountain and will be rewarded for the climbing you did to get here by splendid views.
This trail links well into a right turn on
Parr's Yard over toward Pinkham Road. Before Pinkham Road, consider taking another right on
Wilder Way for a fantastic trail alternative to the dirt road riding down to
Magill Fields and the little brother of Dead Moose Alley,
Moose Alley. This whole linkup down the mountain makes for a great reward for your climbing efforts, and also dumps you right into a great position to run laps on
Farmjunk and Skydive before heading back into town.
Dead Moose Alley offers the kind of riding that has you focused on what's ahead until you find yourself at the bottom wishing it had never ended.
