This trail is similar to the other singletrack "Backs" in the area -
Hog Back and
Bear Back, but more often skipped or overlooked. After all,
Bear Back is longer; and it's immediate neighbor,
Sidewinder, is some of the most fun you can have on two wheels. However, don't let the other great trails in the area distract you from Piggy Back. It's sure to put a smile on your face.
The trail rides well in either direction, but offers more continuous descent approaching from the Market Cafe down
Hog Back. Take a left shortly after the left-hand turn onto
Sidewinder where you're sure to see people congregating on a busy day with worried looks on their faces. Piggy Back offers smooth, bermed switchbacks and small jumps without any difficult or strenuous riding. This makes it a great, slightly easier alternative to
Sidewinder and
Bear Back for more entry-level riders.
From the end of Piggy Back, you can easily slog back up
Hog Back or
Violet's Outback toward the Market Cafe again, keep following
Hog Back down to
West Branch, or traverse
Violet's Outback to a lung buster up
Fox Run toward the Wildflower Inn. Not bad options.
Piggy Back's major flaw is that it's just so darn short. That's okay; you're in Kingdom! When you're finished lapping Piggy Back in both directions amidst sandwich and drink breaks at the Market Cafe in the middle of the forest, there are plenty more quality trails to ride!
