Description

This trail is a great alternative to the Aspen Creek Trail #48. The split off East Copper Trail #260 is not marked but gets enough use that it's easy to find. If descending Trail #260, Moby splits off just after the first righthand turn.

Starting from East Copper Trail #260, this is beautiful singletrack twisting through a lush Gambel Oak grove. Next comes some gentle climbing through pines before becoming a bit more exposed with some very expansive views. There are a few narrow spots, so watch your line.

About half a mile (maybe less) in, there is an unmarked intersection. Stay left or you'll find yourself on Aspen Creek Trail #48. After about 1 mile of twisting singletrack, the trail overlays some old abandoned mining/forest roads and the descent steepens. It is a fast rip downhill until you join the Aspen Creek Trail #48 just above the Copper Basin Road Trailhead.

Depending on one's appetite, you can drop down Aspen Creek Trail #48 to Copper Basin Road and take Cold Springs Trail #393 towards Thumb Butte, or go right and, after a short climb, have a fun, ripping descent on Wolverton Mountain Trail #9415 which will deposit you on White Spar Road. Still hungry for more? Take Trail 396 and 330, etc. The options are aplenty.

Nice punchy climb if you run it the opposite direction, loose and steep in spots make for an enjoyable challenge.
