Just to reiterate, after dropping in off of Trafalgar Rd., (referred to as section three in the description), the trail is a nice, wide, machine-cut flowing trail. However, it abruptly gives way to a MUCH more narrow trail with ZERO WARNING. It also loses the angled "back cut" on the hillside, and is cut virtually straight up and down due to an abundance of limestone that was required to be cut through. If you snag a pedal on the "high side" of this narrow trail, you won't like the result.

Description

This is one contiguous trail that branches from The Back 40 Loop - Complete Ride and serves as a connector. If you're wanting to shorten the Back 40 Loop, this it the trail to accomplish that. It's also one of the most fun trails in the system in the east-to-west direction, so don't miss it.

The first section is just a very gradual climb along Euston Rd. from the Back 40 Loop. Once you reach Commonwealth Rd., you make a sharp left and follow along in the ditch, and then cross over to drop into the second section of trail.

You start with a few small berms and a sharp descent down to a hollow and dry creek bed. From here, you start into a long flowing descent with sweeping turns with a few rollers that you can use as jumps for a little air time. Now, you start a pretty short, steep climb that runs right behind the Fire Station and leads you to Trafalgar Rd.

Cross over, and this is what I term section three. You're faced with a sharp decline with a hard left-hand berm, then a hard right-hand berm, and a BIG step down launcher! You can air it out, or roll it, but it's going to bring a smile either way!

From here, you continue descending and this is worthy of a WARNING.

The trail starts out with as a nice, wide, machine-cut trail with a nice angled "back cut." HOWEVER, it quickly gives way to a MUCH more narrow trail with a sharper "back cut," and a steep drop to the right. If you are ripping down it, just beware that your margin for error drops by a factor of about five in this area, and at least a few riders have taken diggers as a result.

Continue the descent, with some very short uphills mixed in, which gives way to a fairly level section with some small jumps and a creek crossing that runs down the power line road. Shortly, you'll "T" into the Back 40 Loop.

Just prior to that, you can also opt to cross up and over Summit School to your right, if you want to venture onto Pinyon Creek Trail or some of the other connecting trails that aren't part of the Back 40 Loop.

There's nothing preventing you from riding this trail from west to east, but it will be predominantly climbing. Most of it is gradual, with one pretty steep descent just past the Fire Station. Be prepared to test your endurance if you plan to ride this one west to east contiguously without stopping. If you're looking for a pretty solid three-mile climb with some VERY steep grades in places to test and work on your fitness, here's your chance!
