Dogs Leashed
Description
From Leadbetter Gap go through the bar gate and head downhill on Front Hollow Rd. The beginning sections are downhill and sometimes steep and rocky with washed out areas. When you come to a small stream crossing, the
Cross Ridges Trail (CR) will be on the right.
From here, the trail is more gradually downhill, traveling along a creek. There are some large pools of stagnant water to navigate around, many of which have a foot of mud under the water. The pools have work around trails that are sometimes very narrow and precarious along the edges of the water, and some sections detour from the road briefly to avoid the water completely. The quagmires are much more difficult to get around when there has been rain.
The road continues along the stream and eventually passes the end of
Pretty Ridge Trail on the right, marked by a wooden fence ladder and shortly after
Bays Ridge Trail on the left. From here, both of these trails have very steep climbing sections that turn into hike-a-bike for significant distances. Continuing on Front Hollow Road past the
Bays Ridge Trail intersection the rocky stream runs down the road for the last quarter mile and is rideable when the weather has been dry.
Eventually, the road leaves the park and joins the paved Bays Mountain Rd. Reversing the direction back to Leadbetter Gap is a strenuous and sometimes technical climb with the steepest sections at the end just before Leadbetter Gap.
